1 Then Job answered,
2 “Listen carefully to my speech,
And let this be your way of consolation.
3 “Bear with me that I may speak;
Then after I have spoken, you may mock.
New American Standard Bible: 1995 update. 1995 (Job 21:1–3).
As you may know, I have been reading through the bible this year chronologically. We are in Job. He has lost everything. His wife and his family. All his wealth and position. He is sick with boles all over and he is absolutely miserable. Still, he sins not with his lips. And then his friends come to visit. They give him every reason why it is his fault. It must be. He must be in sin. He must have been unfaithful to the Lord. He is getting what he deserves.
Have you ever had friends speak to you in such a manner? You’re suffering and you feel judged and bashed by something said which was totally off base? Or it was the truth but you are not ready to hear it?
Or, how about have you ever spoken something less than empathetic to a dear one who is hurting but you meant well? Ever given a word of encouragement or with ‘discernment’ but really, it was just ‘sweet worded judgement’?
Dear ones, let us be first to pray! First to listen, quick to hear and slow to speak
Let us be only women of encouragement, the kind that leads to Him and only Him!
Let’s make this the year our words are sweet
what are you reading?
